MPSE Membership
Membership in the MPSE spans four continents, eight countries and thirteen states. We have members in London, Toronto, Montreal, Sydney, Melbourne, Beijing, Paris, New York and Orlando, as well as Germany, Finland and both Southern and Northern California. We always welcome new members!
Benefits of Membership
Membership in the MPSE puts you in the fine company of other sound editors, music editors, and sound designers who wish to raise awareness of what the sound track is capable of doing to support the art of motion pictures.
Active Members (including Active Foley Members) are encouraged to use the initials MPSE after their name in credits. They vote in our general nomination ballot and may serve on the Blue Ribbon Panels that vote for the final awards. They also vote in board elections.
Affilitate Members may not use the initials, nor may they vote on general ballots or board elections. However, they may volunteer for Blue Ribbon Panels at the board chair's discretion.
Student Members may not use the initials nor may they vote on any type of ballot, including Blue Ribbon panels.
Membership cards, both active and affiliate, will gain members admittance to many industry screenings. All members received discounted admission to this year's summer sound show.
Active Membership
The minimum requirement for Active Membership is three (3) years as a SOUND EDITOR or SOUND DESIGNER cutting DIALOGUE, ADR, SOUND EFFECTS, FOLEY, or MUSIC. Additionally, an editor must have made, in the judgment of the board of directors, an outstanding contribution to his or her field of endeavor. Please note that Assistants, Recordists, and Mixers are not eligilble for Active Membership, but may apply for Affiliate Membership.
APPLICATION REQUIREMENTS
- A list of credits covering at least a three (3) year period of time (with dates)
- Signatures and phone numbers of two (2) Sponsors (active MPSE members)
- A letter of endorsement from one (1) of the sponsoring active MPSE members
- A list of two (2) additional references (not sponsors) and their phone numbers. (The additional references do NOT need to be MPSE members.)
INCOMPLETE APPLICATIONS (including those without dates) will be returned to the applicant.

Active Foley Membership
The minimum requirement for Active Membership is three (3) years as a FOLEY ARTIST. Additionally, a Foley artist must have made, in the judgment of the board of directors, an outstanding contribution to his or her field of endeavor.
Foley artsists who are currently Affiliate Members may upgrade to Active Foley status by filling out the Active Foley application. (No initiation fee is necessary for upgrade.) This will allow you to use the MPSE initals and obtain voting status.
APPLICATION REQUIREMENTS
- A list of credits covering at least a three (3) year period of time (with dates)
- Signatures and phone numbers of two (2) Sponsors (active MPSE members)
- A letter of endorsement from one (1) of the sponsoring active MPSE members
- A list of two (2) additional references (not sponsors) and their phone numbers. (The additional references do NOT need to be MPSE members.)
INCOMPLETE APPLICATIONS (including those without dates) will be returned to the applicant.

Affiliate Membership
The requirement for affiliate membership is motion picture and television industry experience with particular emphasis on the creation of soundtracks. This non-voting category of membership includes ASSISTANT SOUND and ASSISTANT MUSIC EDITORS, LIBRARIANS, PRODUCTION MIXERS, RECORDISTS, POST-PRODUCTION MIXERS, and other relevant positions.
Affiliate members may not use the initials MPSE, and do not have voting privileges on general ballots or board elections. However, they may volunteer for Blue Ribbon Panels at the board chair's discretion.
APPLICATION REQUIREMENTS
- Signature and phone numbers of one (1) Sponsor (active MPSE member)

Student Membership
The requirement for student membership is proof of student status (such as photocopy of a student ID) and the signature of a faculty member. After three years at student status, student members are automatically upgraded to Affiliate Membership. Student members may not use the initials MPSE, and do not have voting privileges of any kind. They may not volunteer to judge on Blue Ribbon Panels.

The forms are MS Word documents. Due to the high number of illegible forms, we ask that you fill these out on your computer and then mail them in. Anywhere that there is a grey box, you can type your response and then print it out. The grey background will not print.
